Directivity of musical instruments in a real performance situation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Measurements of the directivity of musical instruments are presented in the context of a new directivity representation of sources for auralizations. Three instruments have been recorded over the whole compass simultaneously in both horizontal and vertical planes with a multimicrophone array. Results are analyzed focusing on the differences between the directivity of particular tones and the averaged directivity over the whole compass. The consequences of these variations in a real performance situation in a room are looked into using computer room simulations. Further developments will consider room auralizations using different representations for the directivities of musical instruments.

ON ACOUSTICS MADRID , 2 - 7 SEPTEMBER 2007 Development of Selectable Viewpoint and Listening Point System for Musical Performance
This paper describes the development of a new visual and audio display on which users can view images and listen to sounds at arbitrary positions. In this system, the ray-space method is used for the selectable viewpoint, and a signal separation method based on frequency-domain independent component analysis is used for the selectable listening point. For the selectable listening point, individ...
متن کاملAdvancements in Actuated Musical Instruments
This article presents recent developments in actuated musical instruments created by the authors, who also describe an ecosystemic model of actuated performance activities that blur traditional boundaries between the physical and virtual elements of musical interfaces. Actuated musical instruments are physical instruments that have been endowed with virtual qualities controlled by a computer in...

Background : Sound pollution has unwarranted effects on hearing loss. Despite numerous prior studies on sound pollution and its effects in industrial environments, scanty studies are available among musicians. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the association between musical instruments noise and hearing loss. Material and method : For this prospective study, 50 professional players o...
متن کاملOPTIMUM PERFORMANCE-BASED DESIGN OF CONCENTRICALLY BRACED STEEL FRAMES SUBJECTED TO NEAR-FAULT GROUND MOTION EXCITATIONS
This paper presents a practical methodology for optimization of concentrically braced steel frames subjected to forward directivity near-fault ground motions, based on the concept of uniform deformation theory. This is performed by gradually shifting inefficient material from strong parts of the structure to the weak areas until a state of uniform deformation is achieved. In this regard, to ove...
متن کاملPlaying with dynamic sound
Physical musical instruments have always been dynamic systems designed to operate within chosen constraints. This paper reports on the interaction design of a new digital musical instrument that uses dynamic stochastic synthesis and how performance requirements have directed the development of an appropriate interface that balances the systems emergent behaviour with sufficient real-time predic...
